I wouldn't say both teams are similar past the need for a #1 centre. Toronto is filled with youth at the NHL & AHL level. Calgary is probably in the spot the Leafs were years ago when they refused to go younger and kept with an older team.
Feaster has stated they are not rebuilding but retooling, which means no chance Kipper is moved unless it is a stupid package.

Colin Dambrauskas: Are The Leafs Interested In Kiprusoff? - Colin Dambrauskas
I think the LEafs would be very interested in Kipper as would abunch of teams. But as you say there is nothing the Leafs have that they would willing part with that Calgary needs.
Just think...If the Flames would have shipped Kipper off 2 years ago when many of us said to, They may not have won so many games and could have had a couple lotto picks and be restocked by now... |

Agreed.
And I'm sure the leafs would have interest in kipper, but the price would be far to high. |

Flip Kiprusoff to the Leafs, work a deal with the Kings for Bernier.
Get younger, and a Goalie with a huge upside.. - fsanford
It would most likely be easier to obtain Bernier than Kipper. So that trade makes no sense. |

If Feaster decided to trade Kipper then he might as well complete the fire sale. - tomburton99
I believe that they should. Trade their older stars for prospect, draft high for 2-3 years. |

Kipper would cost way more, that being said he is awesome. Bernier could be someday |

Point is....*if* Feaster moves Kipper it would be for youth, young assets, picks....of which Toronto cant arguably afford to give up in their current position. |

Sure, as a back up. You can't just throw him to the wolves and make him start 70+ games.
Did Van throw Schneider immediatly into a starting role? |

They would be back at square 1 but with a true #1 goalie... for a couple years, I see kipper playing 4 more years. |

Yeah. Unfortunately for Calgary, Kipper keeps them from falling down into the lotto picks. |

Karlsson could start a few. Its not like the flames are expecting to be any good in the event the did move kipper |

You wouldn't want to break his confidence so early. Maybe bring in a verteran goalie, good or not, to shoulder the load? |

lots of leaf fan trolls too. Honestly if they dealt a elite, all star caliber player like Kipper then would want one back. IMO the flames should have started the rebuild last yr, but its clear that's not the case. They feel they can compete so a trade for prospects wouldn't work. |

I doubt the flames will ever be a trading partner with the leafs again after that whole Phaneuf debacle |
